VeggieTales Takes Root in Tenn.

VeggieTales’ Larry the Cucumber and Bob the Tomato join their pals, Big Idea CEO Terry Pefanis and Gov. Phil Bredesen, at The Factory in Franklin.
Vegetables of all shapes and colors are sprouting in Franklin, but not just through the efforts of local gardeners.
Big Idea Inc., creators of the VeggieTales entertainment franchise, is relocating to Franklin, and Tennessee officials couldn’t be happier to welcome Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber.
“Big Idea’s decision to relocate its corporate headquarters to Tennessee, where it began, is reflective of a growing interest in developing family entertainment in the Franklin area,” says Gov. Phil Bredesen. “Big Idea’s move here is sure to spark additional entertainment investment in this community and its workforce.”
Big Idea’s mission is to positively impact the moral and spiritual fabric of society through creative media, and the VeggieTales kids’ video series is a prime example. It teaches values like kindness, honesty and forgiveness through the wacky adventures of talking vegetables. The series has sold more than 35 million videos and 3 million audio albums, and its first feature film grossed more than $25 million at the domestic box office in 2002.
Terry Pefanis, chief operating officer at Big Idea, says the company is thrilled to call Tennessee home.
“This vibrant area of the country is not only rich in culture and hospitality, it is also the center of the Christian entertainment and country music industries,” Pefanis says. “It is the ideal place for Big Idea and VeggieTales to grow and prosper.”
