‘Innovation Valley’ Turns Nano into Commerce

The East Tennessee Nano Initiative is at work translating Innovation Valley’s nanoscience resources into economic activity. Included in the group’s goals:

* Accelerating the nanoscience-to-commerce process, with help from a University of Tennessee MBA consulting class conducting interviews with companies, researchers and other regional economic development efforts.

* Recruiting nano companies to East Tennessee, beginning with a national ad campaign.

* Helping area companies adopt nanotech applications through ORNL’s Technology Transfer Office.

* Supporting new nano companies with Tech 2020’s Center for Entrepreneurial Growth.

* Building a pipeline of nanoscience talent with a new interdisciplinary graduate program in nanoscience at UT and new $10 million state-funded UT-ORNL joint appointments.
