Tenn. Earns High Marks for Relocating Tech Firms
Published Apr 08, 2003
Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development is committed to bringing technology to Tennessee. Over the last year, ECD has focused on leveraging and capitalizing on Tennessee’s rich science and technology assets for new business investment and job creation.
That work has paid off in a number of ways. The state has been named by Medical DeviceLink, a leading Web-based information service for the medical instrument industry, as one of the nation’s top-10 states for medical technology executives looking to locate new businesses. Medical DeviceLink averages more than 2 million visitors and more than 14 million page views per year.
The article mentions Tennessee’s efforts to promote biotechnology by citing the state’s recent biotechnology task force report. It also ranks Memphis second in the country in medical device and instrument manufacturing, and Nashville as a widely recognized health-care hub.
“We are proud to receive this recognition,” says Matt Kisber, ECD commissioner. “At ECD, we are committed to promoting technology development in Tennessee, and are working aggressively to grow and attract the new higher-paying, higher-skilled jobs that the industry offers.”
